The patented RDI Technologies technology uses a high-speed video camera combined with software and processing algorithms. Motion Amplification® is a proprietary video processing algorithm that detects the smallest displacements and then strengthens this movement to the level visible to the naked eye, which allows diagnostics of a single machine as well as the entire assembly of machines and surrounding installations. The system is packed in the Iris M ™ basic set ready for measurement or the Iris MX ™ extended frequency range.
MotionAmplification® technology in addition to visualization, turns every pixel in the camera view into a sensor capable of measuring vibrations or motion with high accuracy. This means that in a completely non-contact way we can measure the displacement of objects, foundations, machine parts, pipelines and plot: vibration frequency spectra, time courses and orbits. The mass of the examined object and its material are irrelevant. First of all, light it so that the view is clear enough and the results accurate. The sensitivity of the system is defined at 2.5 micrometres, from a distance of one meter, with a 50 mm lens.
Motion Amplification® software has a very rich functionality, and one of the most important functions is filtering. Using one of four typical filters (lowpass, highpass, bandpass, bandpass) we can from a view of many machines, precisely select the frequencies we are interested in and see which parts of machines, construction, pipeline etc. are related to these frequencies.
In practice, complex installations show many sources of vibration, and by measuring vibrations on bearing housings we are not sure whether they are frequencies from this particular machine or whether they come from the resonance of a pipeline, structure or other machine in the hall. Filtering and imaging for various, narrow frequency bands dispels all doubts, indicating the real source of the problem.
The RDI Technologies team is engineers with many years of practice in maintenance issues, experienced in industrial realities. Thanks to this, the Iris M / MX measuring set is a well-thought-out case with a set of accessories necessary to make measurements. You don’t even need power – all components: camera, laptop, light – have battery power. The system unfolds on the object in a few minutes. Configuration in good lighting conditions takes seconds. The recording is another few – several seconds. In practice, after reaching the measuring site, the first results illustrating the problem are obtained after several minutes.
Reporting is above all extremely simple, and the results are easy to present to both experienced diagnosticians and completely non-technical people. After recording the movie, we can generate time courses, spectra and orbits from any point of the image. We will easily show phase relations between the engine, its frame and concrete pedestal. For people without diagnostic knowledge, we generate a few seconds movie in MP4 format, on which they can see the displacement of individual machine parts themselves. The film can be enriched with the passages played during its playback, which graphically shows the observed problem with the machine literally to everyone.
